Aquaflex can be used at any time during the day to fit in with your schedule. It’s worth bearing in mind thought that as the days wears on, your muscles will become tired. So, if you exercise in the evening, you may not be able to hold as many weights or to exercise for as long as usual.

Aquaflex® cones are very discreet, the largest is similar in size to a super tampon. The vaginal cones can be taken apart to allow vaginal weights to be inserted. As your pelvic floor strengthens you will progress from using the larger cone without vaginal weights to the smaller cone with the maximum weight. The stronger your pelvic floor the easier you will find it to use the smallest, heaviest cone.
When an Aquaflex® cone is inserted into the vagina, the pelvic floor muscles automatically contract around the cone giving immediate identification of the correct muscles. It may sometimes be necessary to put some voluntary effort in to retain the cone. It is this reflex action that exercises and strengthens the pelvic floor muscles.

When to use

Even if you have never experienced stress incontinence, you could use Aquaflex vaginal weights ® as a preventative measure, to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles in preparation for pregnancy, or as part of an overall fitness programme.
After the strain of carrying a baby for nine months, and the rigours of giving birth, it is not surprising that some mums will be left with a weakened pelvic floor muscles and poor control over their bladder.

A quick summary of how to use Aquaflex®
First of all, take the larger cone (without any vaginal weights) and hold it at the point where it joins the cord.
Push it gently into your vagina with only the cord remaining on the outside. If the cone pushes down onto your finger, you are probably using your abdominal muscles instead of your pelvic floor muscles.
Tighten your pelvic floor muscles whilst gently pulling on the cord to ensure that the cone is correctly positioned. If you are using the correct muscles, the cone should pull away from your fingers as it is drawn into the vagina.
Once you've identified the pelvic floor muscles, stand up and use your muscles to try to hold the cone in place. If you can retain the empty cone with no effort you should start to add weights until you feel it's an effort to retain the cone. If it requires some effort to retain the empty cone, this is your starting point for using the Aquaflex® pelvic floor exercise system.
Once your starting weight is established, you should aim to increase the time you are able to keep the cone in place. Try for a maximum of 20 minutes a day.
Try to hold the cone in place as you gently walk around. This makes the pelvic floor muscles work harder.
If you can retain the larger cone with all of the weights, it's time to move to the smaller cone. Again start with the empty cone and build up the weights as your muscles grow stronger.
To achieve the best results in the shortest time, it's a good idea to use Aquaflex® every day for the first eight to twelve weeks.
Do – wash your hands before using Aquaflex vaginal weights, and thoroughly clean the cones and weights every time you use them.
Do – seek professional advice if you have any difficulties using Aquaflex®.
Do – use your Aquaflex® regularly. As will all exercise, the best results are achieved and maintained by constant training.
Don’t – be surprised if you have to reduce the weight of your cone when exercising in the evening. Your muscles will tire as the day progresses.
Don’t – expect to feel an immediate improvement. Muscle training takes time and the benefits may not be felt for several weeks. If you feel there’s no improvement after 12 weeks, you should seek professional advice.

Don’t use the vaginal weights under the following circumstances:
* During or just after intercourse
* Whilst using a vaginal diaphragm or cap
* During pregnancy
* If you have had a prolapse
* When you have a period
* If you have a vaginal infection
